During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
