Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
