New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
