American entertainer Pat Finn, who appeared in beloved television series including Friends, "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has passed away aged 60.

The skilled improv artist died at home in LA this Monday having undergone treatment for cancer from 2022 onward, as reported by news outlets.

"Pat saw everyone as a friend - only friends he hadn't encountered," his loved ones said in a announcement.

They continued that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with joy and exuberance".

A Prolific Career on Screen

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the brother of the main character.

He was also seen in a repeating character on "Murphy Brown" in the latter half of the 1990s.

He appeared as the character Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in 1998, portraying a social organizer who would assign unpleasant chores to his guests.

In the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he had guest spots on numerous popular shows, such as:

  • "King of Queens"
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for playing Bill Norwood in The Middle, starring in eight seasons between 2011 and 2018.

His film credits encompass "It's Complicated" and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

A Life in Improv

Away from his on-screen roles, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was an adjunct professor.

He was part of a comedy group of six named "Beer Shark Mice".

"He taught, supported, and inspired numerous pupils over the years and it's nearly impossible to find anyone anyplace who has anything negative to say about him," his relatives stated.

In a tribute, fellow actor actor Richard Kind remarked there was "nobody more kind, gentle, and humorous, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, helping you be funnier and better. A great dad, a great guy," he shared online.

Finn is leaves behind his partner Donna, his three kids, and his family.
