Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are calling for that a person who jumped a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more response on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two very different sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, earning a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
