The Details Known About the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack

No fewer than 16 people were killed and over 40 were wounded when attackers fired on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She told the moments before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

In a statement, the Foreign Minister declared that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was also killed in the incident, according to reports referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with a number in serious condition. Those hurt include two officers who attended the scene.

One of the injured is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Called a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the response of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
